A car charger refers to any device that can be plugged into the 12 volt cigarette lighter outlet provided in a car. Then it can be used to charge the battery of a cell phone, a MP3 player or any such device.

It is strongly advised to avoid talking on the cell phone while it is being charged inside the car.

Also, it is always better to let the battery of the cell phone drain off completely before putting it on the charger. This will help to prolong the battery life. Thus, it hardly makes sense to plug in the cell phone into the charger every time while stepping inside the car.

A car charger can have a dual purpose too. It can act as a battery charger as well as a FM trasmitter for a radio, or for a phone that plays music too. Another thing to be remembered here is that this charger is to be used only when it is needed, and not as a regular practice.

These chargers are easily available in the market and are affordable too. Thus it makes sense to keep one of them in the car in case of an emergency. There are many new kinds of car chargers available today. There are the ones that are powered by solar energy and others that are manually operated.

You can get a car charger to charge a laptop too. In this case, a power adapter will be required that will be able to convert the power supply of the car in order to match the laptop. But again, this should not be the sole means of charging a laptop.

The chargers available today have many other features too. These have tools to inflate a tire, check pressure as well as do minor repairs. Thus they are a great help in an emergency.
